A video available on the web that discusses the reasons for extinction.  Humans-pollution, loss of habitat, human population growth, over hunting, black market activities-including poaching and exotic pet trade.
Quote from the medium:
“All living things have a special place in ecology- called their niche.”

It discusses, argues, outlines, showcases, or explains ……..

It outlines how living species can become extinct and why it is happening.  It thoroughly explains how humans have changed the animal’s world.

Recommendation: Do you recommend this medium to what age level? Your general impressions. What you learned new. What it is about...
I would recommend this video to students in grades 6-8.  Some of the concepts, such as black markets poaching, ecosystems, and notches are a little advanced for elementary students.   My impression was that this video was made many years ago.  The graphics and the documentary seem old age.  Also, the beginning does not interest the students right from the beginning.
I learned that before man 1 species/1,000 years became extinct and since man inhabited America, 200 species of plants are now extinct
Author's Writing Style-What is your opinion about the way the author wrote this book? Think about the author's choice of words, the point of view and his/her use of dialogue.
I liked the author’s writing style because it was very informative and direct.   I like that the students would be getting a great deal of knowledge and facts from the video.  However, the speaker was very dry and a little monotone.  The video is 25 minutes and I feel the students would be bored about halfway through.  Therefore, I would show this video in segments instead.
Theme- What are the major issues/ topics/ themes/ projects in this medium? What message was he/she trying to give to reader?
The students should walk away with the message that animals and plants are just as important as people to the world we live in.  Destruction of habitats limits the animals and cause endangerment and extinction.  Without plants, animals and people wouldn’t survive.
Classroom Integration. Can you use the ideas in your classroom? Did it inspired you create a lesson plan, did it give you new strategies or methods?
This is a little too advanced for my 3rd grade classroom but I would teach animals a little more in depth than the science textbook does.  I like that the video talks about communities on the earth and the roles of the plants and animals.
Multicultural, multilingual Perspective: Is this medium designed, or produced for different learning preferences, and abilities, do they included unbiased pictures, information?
The video shows many pictures of animals.  Some the students may be familiar with from where they live and others from different countries where the students may have lived or visited before.  It is really geared toward auditory and visual learners.  The information is strongly swayed towards saving all plants and animals.
Something Unique about this medium…

I don’t think anything was unique which is a reason I would show it in segments.  When videos are very mainstream the students can get bored quickly.
Add one or two review for the medium you choose from another resource.
