article: Scoring Power Points by Jamie McKenzie
This article expressed the need to pay closer attention to the way we design Power Point presentations. It made the point that Power Point is only a tool and that just utilizing it doesnÕt make you a cutting edge communicator. It made an introduction of the term ÒPower Pointlessness,Ó which is defined as basically using too many of the bells and whistles of the application to where the point of main idea of what youÕre trying to teach of present is lost. The author made good points and provided good examples of Power Pointing gone wrong. It made me remember instances where I was in a class where the presentation of the material could have been better.
The author provided many tips and resources on how to better use the Power Point as well as questions to ask yourself about the presentation you put together. Good design resources were also provided in the article, giving us the opportunity to learn more about design in general. The most important point I came away with from the article is to consider the audience you will be presenting to. As with any other form of communication, the more you understand your audience the easier it will be to reach them.
