THE WRITING ACROSS THE CURRICULUM PROGRAM
Pedagogy Workshop The workshop is designed to help faculty use writing as part of the learning process in all academic disciplines. In the past four years alone, nearly 160 full-time, part-time, and adjunct teachers at William Paterson have participated in the workshop, which has been in existence since 1982. Participation in the workshop is capped at 20 people, each of whom receives ¾ overload credits for attending. Most faculty have found that this opportunity to talk collegially about teaching strategies is helpful in developing new classroom approaches and skills that support the teaching both of content and of critical thinking in their disciplines. The sessions are led by Jim Hauser of English and Sharon Hanks of Biology . Guest faculty from other departments will also discuss the ways they use writing in their disciplines. Topics include:

Celebrating Student Writing Across the Curriculum Each year, the Writing Across the Curriculum Program holds a writing contest for undergraduates throughout the university. The contest, which is open to all WPU students, encourages participation by all university departments; excellent student writing is nominated by faculty members. Winning work--personal essays, formal research, creative writing, lab reports, reading logs, any form of writing in any discipline and at any academic level--is published in the Celebrating Student Writing Across the Curriculum annual publication.
