The Teaching Children Mathematics Program is one of seven specialization options in the 33-credit M.Ed. in Education* master's degree program. This program is designed for elementary teachers who are certified to teach all academic subjects, including mathematics in grades N-8, and for certified N-12 mathematics teachers who seek to increase their pedagogical competence. All courses in the program are for 3-credits (45 hours) and may be counted toward the state-mandated 100 hours of required professional development in most school districts. This program offers inquiring K-12 educators an opportunity to:
develop in-depth knowledge of theories and trends in teaching mathematics apply research approaches in the classroom incorporate technology in mathematics learning become a mathematics teaching expert at various levels within the K-12 curriculum expand career options.
Courses are offered in the evening with some summer session options. Up to nine (9) credits may be taken for non-degree credit for professional development or for eventual application to the master's degree. Graduate Assistantships are available for full-time students.
