The Teaching Children Mathematics Program
is one of seven specialization options in the 33-credit M.Ed. in Education* master's degree program.  This program is designed for elementary teachers who are certified to teach all academic subjects, including mathematics in grades N-8, and for certified N-12 mathematics teachers who seek to increase their pedagogical competence.  All courses in the program are for 3-credits (45 hours) and may be counted toward the state-mandated 100 hours of required professional development in most school districts.  This program offers inquiring K-12 educators an opportunity to:

  • develop in-depth knowledge of theories and trends in teaching mathematics
  • apply research approaches in the classroom
  • incorporate technology in mathematics learning
  • become a mathematics teaching expert at various levels within the K-12 curriculum
  • expand career options.

Courses are offered in the evening with some summer session options.  Up to nine (9) credits may be taken for non-degree credit for professional development or for eventual application to the master's degree.  Graduate Assistantships are available for full-time students.

*Applications and further information for related programs are available from the William Paterson Graduate Admissions Office (973) 720-3641.
