Here are some reference sites on the Web which you may find useful for doing research for a paper or project.
 
  1.  Beaucoup! Reference & Education -- Reference Works.- Reference and education works organized into 43 categories, including "Sociological Subjects".  
  2. BUBL Information Service - A directory offering access to many sources, including full-text articles; the listing of BUBL links includes a category of "Social Sciences" which leads to "Sociology".  
  3. CyberTimes Navigator - The New York Times Guide to World Wide Web sites; there are hundreds of links to a wide variety of Web pages and sites.  
  4. FAST Multimedia Search - A search engine which, in addition to searching for data, can also search for video and audio pages and sites. (The search page will remind you of Google.)  
  5. Information Please On-Line Dictionary, Internet Encyclopedia, & Almanac Reference - On-line version of the Information Please Almanac(s); includes a category of links to sites dealing with "Society and Culture".  
  6. Internet Public Library - provides sites arranged by academic discipline, with access to collections of online references; this site is staffed by librarians.  
  7.. Internet Resources Outside the Library of Congress - "A Library of Congress Internet reference page" including (but not limited to) links to newspapers, periodicals, and government documents.  
  8. Librarians' Index to the Internet - The motto is "Information You Can Trust". This is a searchable subject directory of thousands of Internet resources compiled and evaluated by professional librarians.  
  9. Martindale's 'The Reference Desk - Similar to Beaucoup Reference and Education; also includes some links to "fun" sites, live video cam shots, and other non-academic information; this site is especially relevant for research in the biological and physical sciences.  
  10. Reference Desk - as the name implies, this is a general reference site with links to just about every Internet resource one would want.  
  11. SciSeek - a search engine specializing in finding information in the sciences, including social science; another Google look-a-like.  
  12. Scout Report Archives - a searchable collection of articles and other materials stored in the archives of the "Scout Report" at the University of Wisconsin; includes a browsable listing of Library of Congreee Subject Headings.  
  13. Welcome to INFOMINE Scholarly Internet Resource Collections - University of California- Riverside links to academic and scholarly references and collections.  
  14. Wikipedia - an unusual encyclopedia consisting of over 300,000 articles written and, in many cases, edited by a community of users knowledgeable in their sucvject areas; allows a user to search for topics, such as "sociology".
