Grading Criteria

Your grade in this course will be determined as follows:

• Exams                                                                40 percent

• Writing assignments                                            30 percent

• Class participation, quizes,                                  30 percent
  and group assignments

There will be a midterm exam (15 percent) and a comprehensive final exam (25 percent).  Six short two-page writing assignments will be required.  Writing assignments will be due on the date assigned and will not be accepted late without a compelling justification. 

Class participation will be determined primarily in the discussion sections, where students will be asked to comment on assigned readings and to participate in group activities of one kind or another. 

Students will take weekly quizes, the results of which will be submitted electronically to their instructor.  

Students with an excessive number of absences (over three) will be penalized at the instructor's discretion.  Excessive absences may result in failure of the course.
