Current Awareness Resources for Searchers and Cybrarians

"How does one keep up with all the new information resources online?" is an oft-asked question in the Library profession. The online world is relatively new, but the challenge is an old one, so librarians have had a long time to think about the broader question of keeping up with new information, regardless of format. Here are some things I find especially useful for anyone interested in keeping up with the world of searching:

Current Cites
"A team of librarians and library staff monitors information technology literature in both print and digital forms, each month selecting only the best items to annotate for this free publication. The resulting issue of 8-12 annotated citations of current literature is emailed to a mailing list and is redistributed on other electronic fora. It is also available as an RSS feed." While this description is accurate, I'd argue the focus is not as narrow as it might sound because the editors are highly conscious of the contexts in which information technology exists and their annotations always emphasize the implications (social, economic, political, legal, policy, etc.) for libraries and information users. I've subscribed for years and every time I get the new issue I want to drop what I'm doing and read several recommended articles.

EContent
One of several important magazines published by Information Today, Inc. The web site offers a lot of free content, although full access requires a paid subscription. You might prefer access to the articles from the print version through a database at your Library (or through JerseyClicks in you have no other affiliation that will get you access). Very industry-oriented, although it's good for breaking news on products, industry happenings, and other information relevant to the search world. Also offers a free weekly email newsletter called EContent Xtra and your choice of up to 23 different RSS feeds.
