Hello Everyone,

Welcome to the MAEN 507- Calculus with Applications Online

I will be your instructor to guide and help you learn basic ideas in contemporary mathematics with emphasis on the applications to real-world problems. The main course objective is to introduce the student to some of the ideas of contemporary mathematics with emphasis on applications.

The course consists of a series of weekly lessons organized according to the textbook.  After you read each lesson you should attempt to do the problems assigned at the end of each lesson to make sure that you understand the material. Some of the assignments may be easy, others a bit frustrating. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any problems.

It is assumed that you are knowledgeable with

Internet surfing,
E-mail (sending and receiving attachments),
Plug-ins (installing and using them when necessary),
Inserting files (pictures, tables, etc) into a document;

and that you have access to

The minimum computer equipment required at all times (as described in http://www.wpunj.edu/cedl/dl/techreq.htm),
A unique e-mail account that you will use during the course,
Microsoft Word (or any compatible word processor).

Therefore, there will be no orientation for this course and we will not meet in person at any time during the course.

I will not accept

Any printed submissions
Late homework
Technical excuses, such as "my computer froze", "I could not access the website", "I did not received the e-mail" and so on) for not doing or submitting your work on time.

If you do not have the necessary equipment and computer skills to take this course, please drop the course and take it at a later time.

Please read carefully the requirement, assignment and grade pages. In particular, pay attention to the timelines and deadlines. It helps if you follow them carefully.
Weekly assignments have deadlines. Once the deadline is passed you will not be able to submit your work. Failing to submit any four (4) homework assignments gives you an automatic F for the course!

We will communicate in two ways:

1. Listserv: The listserv is the best way to send a message to the entire class. The address for the listserv is spring2002-maen507-80@LIST.wpunj.edu

Remember that any message sent to the listserv will be read by the entire group. If you are replying to an individual, use their personal email instead. Remember that using the reply option to answer a message from the listserv will send your message to everyone in the class.

2. Personal E-mail: It should be used when you send your questions and/or files to me or if you want to communicate privately with your classmates.
