Course Description

This course is designed for the student who wishes to investigate the concepts and techniques of elementary calculus. Topics include real numbers systems, functions of one variable, limits and continuity, differentiation, anti differentiation, integration and applications. The role of the graphing calculators and symbolic manipulation software will be explored as to how these new technologies are changing both the teaching and learning of calculus

Basic course objectives are 

 

to understand the theory of limits and continuity

to understand the theory of derivative and its applications

to understand the theory of integration and its applications

to explore the effect of technology in the learning of and thinking about calculus

to develop a portfolio of new types of problems which include higher order thinking skills
