Objective

Students will be able to recognize features of specific habitats.

Students will be able to locate habitats in North America.

Time 1.5 hours

Procedure

  1. Brainstorm places animals live on chalkboard. See if students can work in teams to categorize and simplify lists into specific places. Teach vocabulary of habitats, ecosystems, and biomes.
  2. Students will watch video, Habitats (Sunburst) and complete graphic organizer.
  3. After assessment of graphic organizer, a discussion and review of information will follow.
  4. Students will work in cooperative groups of 2-3 to complete map activity. Students will use Internet, books, and other classroom resources to find and locate habitats in North America. Students will also label a map with the habitats.
  5. Students will compare and contrast findings.

Materials

Habitats video (Sunburst Communications 1999), computers with Internet, graphic organizer (see attached), numerous books and resources on animals and habitats, map of North America (see attached)
