Title -
Sewing for Romeo and Juliet
By - Lisa Allen
Primary Subject - Language Arts
Secondary Subjects - Language Arts
Grade Level - 5-9
After teaching Shakespeare, the Renaissance era and "Romeo and
Juliet", students form groups of four and choose a scene from the play.
Subsequently, students
hand sew period style costumes onto Barbie dolls within their chosen scene. Once
all costumes are designed, students work on designing a stage and present their
chosen scene using their wonderfully costumed dolls! For an extension, you could
use a digital video camera to tape the presentations and upload them
sequentially into a class designed website on Shakespeare and Romeo and Juliet!
This is REALLY fun and has many educational benefits!
