Site Set Up and Maintainance

You should set up your student web page to have a structure that will allow you to easily move your files from you computer to the FTP site.

It is best if you set up you folders locally on your computer to mirror the folders on the website.

this is the folder set up for this site(383-60 course site) /http://euphrates.wpunj.edu/courses/arts383/

You will Notice that the "view" is the LOCAL VIEW.
On the FTP Site i setup the folder structure to be exactly the same! This was easily accompliched - i just upoladed the entire site to Euphrates.

This ensure that the local site was the same as the FTP site. As long as I do not move things around I can now easily find and modify files and maintain the site!!!

Dreamweaver allows you to move single file, single folder, multiple files, multiple folders, or to upload the entire site at once. But for the structural purposes I suggest you use the same folder structure. This will make everything much easier for you whenyou are trying to get the files uploaded in the proper location. The folders on you local machine will have a direct relationship to the location on the FTP site!!!!

Each project you do should be designed in schematic form before you begin.

For each Projcet(site), complete a Flowchart as in this example:

In your flowcharts you do not need to flowchart the area above the project( bluejeans.htm). what you should remember is that each site's structure is easier to manage if you PLAN everything. Then as you set up you site in Dreamweaver, setup your links, import your images and other assets, upload you site and then do any additional maintainace, the site management is easier.

The goal always is to make the work easier and the workflow smoother, thus saving you time and energy and in the case of commercial work making you additonal money. For me, being able to put a little extra cash in my pocket is a great motivator to design well and manage effectively.
