National History

Mu Sigma Upsilon Sorority, Incorporated was founded on
November 21, 1981 at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, New Jersey
as the first Multicultural Minority Greek Sorority in the nation.
The five founders, each of Latina descent, envisioned an organization
that included women of all nationalities and brought them together
as one. Our motto, "Mujeres Siempre Unidas," or "Women Always United,"
encompasses this vision.

Goals: The ladies of Mu Sigma Upsilon uphold three main goals:

Academic Excellence

Unity Amongst All Women

To Be Active in the University and Community

It is through these goals that we take pride in ourselves,
our cultures, and our sisterhood.

Motto: Mujeres Siempre Unidas (Women Always United)

Colors: baby blue and white

Mascot: Amazon Woman

Nickname: The Mu's (Mew's)

Traditions: Since 1981, Mu Sigma Upsilon has taken pride in the
art of stepping. We have a national Step Team comprised of sisters
from all different chapters and cultural backgrounds.

Diversity: Mu Sigma Upsilon was founded based on diversity and
we have upheld that idea through today. Our sisterhood has expanded
and grown to reach all corners of the world. With each new sister,
we don't just grow as an organization, we grow culturally.
