Fostering a Community of Student Scholars in the Biological Sciences
Saturday, 21 April 2007
William Paterson University of New Jersey

You are cordially invited to the 1st Undergraduate Symposium in the Biological Sciences at William Paterson University. This event is a forum for the presentation of research projects performed by undergraduate students enrolled in colleges and universities in the Mid-Atlantic area.

Conducting undergraduate research is an enriching experience that helps students to successfully enter the professional workforce upon graduation. This symposium is a chance for undergraduates to present what they have learned through their research experiences to a larger audience, and an opportunity for students, faculty, and the community to discuss exciting and multi-disciplinary research topics and to examine the connection between research and education.

The format of the meeting will include morning and afternoon poster sessions.  Posters will be judged by a panel of attending mentors and the awards will be presented to the best undergraduate poster presenters in the following five categories: Biochemistry, Physiology, Cell & Molecular Biology, Genetics, and Ecology & Evolution. In addition, three names will be drawn from the 1st place awards to receive an Ipod® at the conclusion of the awards ceremony.
The meeting will also feature a keynote address (TBA).

Participant abstracts will be published in Symposium Proceedings.

The symposium will be held at the William Paterson University campus in Wayne, New Jersey on April 21st, 2007.  Registration, refreshments, and lunch will be provided free of charge.  Although free, registration is required of all attendees.  Registration and submission of abstracts must be done electronically online at: http://euphrates.wpunj.edu/academic/urs.  Abstracts must be submitted by March 15th.
